I use (an older Version of LR) just to import pictures and catalog/rate them before I convert them with DXO. I own DXO 3 (and its predesessors since 10+ years) and it is my default RAW converter. The changes in Photolab 4 to the user interface are very good IMO ( makes their panelsystem better ). I liked LR a lot, but I also like Photolab very much and Photolab gives very good raw conversion results, as good as LR IMO. Photolab has a good raw conversion and the Elite version has the prime noise reduction system, one of the best systems. I also had LR6, but switched to Photolab the moment adobe introduced their monthly payment system. If their DAM tool is any good that would be worth it right there. I'm not a pro, so I don't have huge amounts of photos that I have to process, but it's still a bit annoying. So I have to run them through a DNG converter to load them. I'm really tempted to upgrade because I still use LR6, which isn't compatible with Z NEFs. I've been playing with DxO for close to 15 years, but just PLAYING with it. Last year it was half off for Black Friday. I believe I paid $49 last year for the Elite upgrade. If you wait until Black Friday, they will probably drop the price even further. I'm sure there is always going to be a lens or camera that has not yet been added to their (or anybody else's) database.I was surprised to see they already have the Z-5 there. The Elite version was only $69 as an upgrade and that's from any of their prior versions.mine was almost 3 years back. If you've used DXO in the past, you can get the upgrade a lot less costly than buying for the first time. Well in all honesty I figured anybody who was in this forum would be able to find the DXO website on their own so no need to be pasting links. But I found Photolab to have both the most accurate colors and the sharpest output. I examined 7 or 8 converters including Adobe and Capture NX-D. I did a long, intensive analysis of raw converters when I switched to Photolab from Capture NX2. How different are their files going to be versus the Mark I versions? I'm sure they will add the 24-200 shortly, as well as the new Z6 and Z7. It is a fantastic program, and has always supported every piece of gear I own (old and new). I've been using Photolab since the first version. When all is said and done you really can't beat Lightroom and Capture NX-D IMO.Ĭrippled? Because it doesn't support a single lens? Quite yet? That's a strong word. I spent all last month trying various editors to get away from Lightroom. It seems silly to even offer such a crippled version.
